In this video, a mother is using her phone to record her husband leaving for work and her son (barely a toddler) goes to kiss him good bye. As the toddler's dad is driving away, the son repeatedly shouts in his tiny voice, "bye daddy!" - "I love you daddy!" - "be careful daddy!” The Father with his window down responds every time with, "I love you sunshine!", "I love you son!” As I was browsing through Facebook this morning, I stumbled upon this video. I had seen it before, but as I watched it again, it caused me to reflect on our relationship with God our Father in heaven.
It is always a refreshing reminder that because of the death and resurrection of Jesus we have become, through our baptism, the Father's adopted sons and daughters. We are priviliged to take part in the imtamcy of His family love.
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Romans 8:14-16
This video reflects the relationship the Father desires to have with each and every one of us. He loves us so much and He is listening more attentively than any earthly Father.
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” John 14:20-21
This is the best prayer to the Father: "I love you daddy!". He will always shout back to us (which is most manifest in Holy Mass): "I love you son!".
